Child Safety Standards

Maiker is an adults only service. We prohibit child sexual abuse and exploitation absolutely, we build the product so that minors cannot use it, and we act on every report we receive. This page is our published standard, and it applies to everyone who uses Maiker.

Maiker is 18 and over, and that is enforced rather than asked

Nobody under 18 may create an account, hold an account, or appear on Maiker in any form. Age is not a checkbox that a person can simply tick past:

The date of birth picker during signup cannot offer a date that would make somebody under 18.
The server checks age again when the account is submitted, so a modified app cannot get past it.
Every account verifies a working cell phone number before it can go any further.
Every member completes a live face check before their profile is ever shown to another person. An account that does not pass cannot finish onboarding, and cannot be seen by anybody.

The result is that a Maiker profile is only ever visible after a real, present adult has been checked. If we find that somebody under 18 has reached the service in spite of this, we remove the account and its content immediately and permanently.

What is prohibited

The following are banned on Maiker without exception, and none of them carry a warning or a second chance:

Child sexual abuse material, meaning any image, video, or other depiction of the sexual abuse or sexual exploitation of a minor.
Sexualizing a minor in any way, including in text, in a profile, in a message, or in a request.
Grooming, solicitation, or any attempt to contact, meet, or make sexual contact with a minor.
Trafficking a minor, or advertising, promoting, or seeking any of the above.
Using Maiker to link to, direct people toward, or trade in any of the above elsewhere.

This applies to profile photos, profile text, messages between matched members, conversations with our AI Matchmaker, and anything else a person can put into the product.

How we prevent it

Profiles are screened against our content rules before they can be shown to anybody.
Members are introduced to a small number of people chosen for them. There is no open directory to browse, no way to search for a person, and no way to reach somebody who has not been introduced to you.
Members can report any profile or conversation from inside the app, and can block somebody from the introduction screen or from a chat. A block freezes the conversation on the server, so it holds whatever the app is told to do.
Reports are recorded on our systems first and emailed to our team second, so a report can never be lost because an email failed.

How to report child sexual abuse or exploitation

If you see anything on Maiker that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits a minor, report it. You do not need an account to contact us.

In the app: open the profile or the conversation, choose Report, and describe what you saw.

By email: hello@meetmaiker.com, with Child Safety in the subject line. This inbox is monitored and this is our published point of contact for child safety matters.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In the United States you can also report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at report.cybertip.org or on 1 800 843 5678.

What we do when we receive a report

We review every report of this kind as our highest priority, ahead of everything else in the queue.
We remove the content and permanently ban the account. A ban of this kind is not appealable.
We preserve the relevant records as the law requires, rather than deleting them, so that an investigation is still possible.
We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as United States law requires of us, and we cooperate with law enforcement.

Compliance

Maiker complies with United States federal and state law on child safety and on the reporting of child sexual abuse material, including our reporting obligations to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children under 18 U.S.C. 2258A. Maiker is available in the United States only. We keep these standards under review and will update this page as our practices develop.
